The classic Corbett experience

What Is a Jeep Safari in Jim Corbett?

The Jim Corbett jeep safari is the most popular way to explore India's first national park. You ride in a registered open-top gypsy with a trained driver and a forest guide, along fixed forest tracks through sal forest, grasslands and riverbeds. Because the jeep is private, your group decides how long to wait at a sighting.

  • Private vehicle – only your group of up to six on board
  • Forest guide on every jeep – mandatory, and they know animal movement
  • Many zones – Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, Durga Devi, Garjiya and buffer areas
  • Flexible pace – ideal for families, photographers and birders
  • Wildlife – tiger, elephant, deer, crocodile and 500+ bird species; sightings are never guaranteed

FAQs

Jeep Safari in Jim Corbett: FAQs

How do I book a jeep safari in Jim Corbett National Park?
Jeep safari permits are issued only through the official Corbett Tiger Reserve booking system for a specific zone, date and shift. Each traveller's name and photo ID details are needed. You can book on the official portal yourself or ask a local operator like us to check availability, book the permit and arrange the jeep and stay.
How far in advance can I book a Jim Corbett jeep safari?
Day-visit jeep safari bookings usually open about 45 days in advance for Indian nationals and 90 days for foreign nationals on the official portal. Popular zones such as Bijrani and weekend or holiday dates fill fast, so book as early as the window allows.
What are the jeep safari timings in Jim Corbett?
There are two shifts a day. The morning shift usually runs from around 6:00 am to 9:30 am and the afternoon shift from around 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Timings shift slightly with the season, and the exact reporting time is printed on your permit.
How many people are allowed in one Corbett safari jeep?
A Jim Corbett safari jeep (open gypsy) takes a maximum of six people, not counting the driver and the forest guide who must accompany every vehicle. The permit is issued per jeep, so a group of up to six can share one private safari.
Which zone is best for a jeep safari in Jim Corbett?
Bijrani is the most popular zone for a day jeep safari, with grassland and sal forest close to Ramnagar. Jhirna and Dhela are good alternatives and usually open all year. Durga Devi suits birders and hilly scenery. The best zone depends on your dates and permit availability.
Can I do a jeep safari in Dhikala zone?
A jeep safari in Dhikala is only possible with a night stay at a Forest Rest House inside the zone; day visitors cannot take a jeep into Dhikala. Without a room, day visitors can book a seat on the shared canter safari that runs into Dhikala.
Is a tiger sighting guaranteed on a Corbett jeep safari?
No. Tigers are wild animals and no operator can guarantee a sighting. Booking more than one safari, choosing zones like Bijrani or Dhikala and going in the drier months can improve your chances. Elephants, deer, crocodiles and birds are seen far more regularly.
Are mobile phones allowed on a Corbett jeep safari?
Following a Supreme Court order of November 2025, Corbett Tiger Reserve is enforcing a ban on smartphones during safaris in its tourism zones, and phones may need to be deposited at the gate. Proper cameras such as DSLRs are allowed. Check the current rules before your safari.
Is a jeep safari safe for children and senior citizens?
Yes. Jeep safaris run on fixed forest routes with trained drivers and a forest guide, and everyone stays inside the vehicle. Forest tracks can be bumpy and dusty, so carry water, a light scarf, warm layers for winter mornings and any personal medicines.
